Gill Lyon

Career and Confidence Coach

BA CMgr FCMI DipNMC PIIC MAC

Gill is an accomplished coach and with her coaching I managed to become more aware of my values and what I want from a job, in a very congruent fashion.  She has a lovely energising voice which kept me working to get to the results I wanted, and she never gives advice, so I knew the decisions I arrived at came from me.
I particularly liked the structure and flexibility of the sessions there is plenty of material to work through in a logical manner, and Gills skills in coaching meant we could take a tangent I needed to solve another problem in order to get around and minimise a barrier to the career decisions.  She has a lot of experience to draw upon, so I knew I was in safe hands and could trust the outcomes of her well tested methods.

I am a fully qualified coach and mentor  accredited with the International Institute of Coaching and a Member of the Association for Coaching. I am also qualified in Occupational Testing (Psychometrics). Over the last 25 years my background has been in business where I've held an interesting variety of management roles in some of the UKs most well-known organisations such as the NHS, Marks & Spencer, British Aerospace, The Royal National Theatre and The Royal Bank of Scotland.

I've been coaching for a number of years with both private clients and individuals within the workplace not only helping them to establish career and personal goals and facilitating creative thinking to improve how they do their current job but to also increase their confidence and self-esteem. I have a successful track record of working with clients to achieve university degrees; secure job promotions or changing career altogether .(see testimonials)

My other credentials include a degree with distinction in Business Management from Edinburgh's Napier University; a Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute and awarded the designation of Chartered Manager by the Chartered Management Institute for my work in leadership development, coaching and mentoring of both individuals and teams.

In my capacity as a Chartered Manager, I mentor and coach managers at all levels who are working towards gaining the award and have a good track record of getting my mentees through to Chartered status. In addition to being a mentor/coach, I am also a Chartered Manager Assessor and independent advisor for the CMI and an associate working with the Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce..

I work internationally as a student support coach, helping and supporting them to overcome the challenges that they face during their education; I also work as a coach and adviser with the Cranfield Trust and am also a volunteer coach for the unemployed.

In what spare time I have (!) I like to: play the piano (Chopin and Lennon and McCartney are my favourite composers) accompanied by my cat Tikka who sings along and travel (doesn't matter where). I'm a great Poirot fan and a fiend for any type of puzzle (the harder the better!)
