COACHINGI have approached Cranfield Trust for help in a variety of areas but it never occurred to me to ask for a volunteer coach/mentor for myself. I met Gill Lyon when I asked Cranfield Trust to help us with job evaluation but Gill soon had me talking about the organisation and the significant transition we were undertaking. As a support organisation for the voluntary and community sector, it is a very lonely job being the Chief Officer. Gill was just what I needed � someone to talk to that understood the challenges but was not directly involved. She helped me reflect on managing all the conflicting priorities and reducing stress levels, dealing with challenging behaviours and staying confident, all the usual day-to-day issues that come up for most people. Gill uses a wide range of tools and techniques as well as an approach that makes her easy to talk to but at the same time challenging � she is a real professional and was an invaluable support to me during a difficult patch.
